The Banksia Family Centre was established in 1992,
to give support to families and to stregthen the overall links which bind a
community.
The Centre provides a comfortable and welcoming environment where adults, children
and seniors can participate in a wide range of structured and unstructured activities.
The family unit is the integral basis of modern day society. Families come in all shapes and sizes, thus having varied needs and aspirations. All families need support regardless of their socio-economic status or specific concerns. Stronger families are the substance that holds neighbourhoods together. Healthy functioning families that are able to promote maximum development of their members are an essential ingredient for an effective and harmonious society.
The centre aims to build up strengths through the development and implementation of community resources and programmes that; Promote community support and education to families; Recognise and respect the needs of individuals within their family; Improve communications between family members and their interactions in the community; Minimise stress on the families; and Enhance the quality of life. The Centre is a focal point for Family Orientated Agencies. The service works with the entire family - parents, children, grandparents, carers couples and other family members. The service provides drop-in times, discussion groups, educational workshops, life skills classes, social events and other planned activities for parents and children.
