When is subconscious mind therapy used?

The simple answer to this question of course is, 'When the problem is in the subconscious mind'. When a person has feelings, behaviours or responses which he/she would like to change but can't do so using conscious effort and will power, then the chances are these feelings are being triggered off at a level of mind which is beyond the normal, conscious level. That is, these things are probably generated by the subconscious part of the mind. When this is the case, all the conscious effort in the world will be of little use in bringing any sort of worthwhile or lasting change. In fact, we often find that the more conscious effort is made, the more the problem persists and is often actually made worse. This is often found in problems such as compulsive overeating, where the client has tried dieting and other conscious level measures to get in control of his/her weight. These people almost always revert to the overeating and overweight condition when they can no longer stay on their diet. When there are underlying or sub-conscious reasons causing the person to overeat or stay fat, (and there usually are) the subconscious reasons will eventually take over again because the conscious efforts have not changed the real reasons for the problem. The same thing is often found with people who really want to stop smoking and can't do so with will power. It is not because they are 'weak-willed" but because the subconscious part of their mind has reasons for the habit to continue. As with the overweight problem, when these subconscious reasons are changed at the subconscious level, the person then has the freedom of choice to make the behaviour changes he/she wants. The same thing can be said for many other problems that people seek help for. Many stress and tension problems; compulsive drinking and gambling problems; a wide range of specific and/or generalised fear problems; lack of personal confidence problems; marital, relationship and sexual problems and other similar things often have their cause based in the subconscious part of the mind. If the problem is being caused by the subconscious mind, then it needs to be changed by the subconscious mind. This is when subconscious-mind therapy is the obvious treatment of choice.

Can these things really be changed?

YES !

If a person has the ability to create a problem in the subconscious mind, he/she has the ability to change it in the same part of the mind, It does however, require a dedicated team-effort between the client and the therapist. You can't be "forced' to make changes without this co-operation. It is important to realise that the therapist does not make the changes happen; the clients' subconscious mind does this. The therapists' job is to guide the clients' awareness into that part of his/her mind which can really do the job. With this teamwork and correct guidance, modern subconscious-mind therapy can help solve these problems permanently.

How does it work?

The subconscious mind works quite differently to and independently of the conscious mind. We sometimes refer to the subconscious mind as the 'feeling mind", or the "inner mind'. Where the conscious mind is the decision -making, or "make it-happen' part, the inner mind is the feeling, or "let-it-happen' part. The therapist will guide the client into an awareness of the inner mind by helping the client let the conscious part become uninterested and uninvolved in what is being done in the inner mind. For some clients it can seem a little like day-dreaming. The Inner mind can be focused on the inner, feeling causes of the particular problem. With the decision- making part not involved, the feeling part is then free to make the necessary changes to old, out-dated feelings and tensions. The object of therapy is to help the inner mind permanently resolve the real feeling causes of the current problem. We almost always find that the clients unwanted feelings, behaviours or responses are simply a current symptom of feelings that have been hidden away in the inner mind previously. Often the original feelings have been pushed down into the subconscious mind many years before. These can be old I ears or hurts that were originally experienced by the person as a child, or even as a baby, All the while these feelings remain hidden in the subconscious, they have the power to influence our present feelings and behaviour. The conscious mind cannot of course be aware of these suppressed feelings and that is why we need to use subconscious-mind therapy to change them. The main difference between this kind of therapy and the many conscious level forms or help available is that subconscious-mind therapy deals with the actual cause of the problems rather than the resulting symptoms, When the cause has been eliminated there can be no further manifestation of the problem, It should be understood that this type of therapy is very different to other types that supposedly deal with unconscious problems. Unlike them, modern subconscious-mind therapy is carried out within the clients subconscious mind. It is not necessary for the therapist to know anything of the details that the client actually changes. likewise, it is not necessary for the client to consciously know the details of what is dealt with within the inner mind. Older types of therapy are aimed at having the person dig the unhappy feelings out of the unconscious so that the conscious mind can "deal with them". This is often a very traumatic experience for the client and It usually results in rather superficial and short term change. The modern approach is a very gentle one. We now know that the conscious mind does not have to "know what is going on" and the client does not have to experience violent release of previously suppressed emotions to make the necessary changes. It is all done quietly and privately within the clients inner or feeling mind.

How many sessions will it take?

As everyone is different and responds to therapy differently, it is impossible to say how many visits a particular person will need, We can however, confidently say that with the correct guidance and teamwork, most problems are successfully eliminated with a relatively small number of clinical sessions.
